For as long as I can remember I was surrounded by hints of woodworking and carpentry, always being around my grandfathers who loved fine intricate woodworking. My two elder brothers followed the same path, mastering the craft of carpentry. Surrounded by their passion, I naturally gravitated toward woodworking classes in school. There was something magical about transforming raw wood into something beautiful and functional.

As I moved into my final year of high school, this fascination grew stronger, leading me to take up a VET course in construction. This course became my gateway to the real world of carpentry. The moment I stepped onto a construction site, I felt a surge of excitement. The sights, sounds, and rhythm of the work resonated deeply with me—it felt like home.

After graduation, the stars seemed to align. A position opened up for an apprentice carpenter in my local area. But like any young adult standing on the brink of their future, I was hesitant. The weight of uncertainty loomed large—what if this wasn’t the right path? Despite my doubts, I sent in my resume, and within a week, I found myself on site, starting my journey as an apprentice carpenter.

It was a moment I’ll never forget—receiving my first tool belt. It was worn and run-down, a hand-me-down full of history, along with a set of second-hand tools. Yet, to me, it was priceless. It didn’t take long to realise that carpentry was exactly where I belonged. I fell in love with every aspect of the trade, and a fire was ignited within me—a burning desire to constantly evolve, to push myself to be better every single day.

One of my earliest lessons came with a dose of humility. I remember the excitement of buying my first power tool set, only to discover that I’d purchased one with lower power—a costly mistake for a young apprentice. But these experiences were more than just lessons; they were pieces of a puzzle, slowly shaping the carpenter and tradesman I was becoming.

With time, my skills grew, and so did my ambition. I proudly completed my Certificate III in Carpentry & Joinery at Gymea TAFE, achieving top marks and earning my qualification as a carpenter. But I wasn’t content to stop there. I enrolled in the Certificate IV in Building, dedicating three nights a week to study at TAFE NSW, often until 9 PM, for two long years. Simultaneously, I applied for my nominate supervisor license, aiming to step into a site supervisor role.

Soon after, my hard work paid off. I was promoted to Leading Hand and Site Supervisor. Those years were intense—I balanced my studies with honing my skills on-site, absorbing everything I could to pass my Certificate IV and expand my knowledge.

With the completion of my Certificate IV in Building and the required two years of site supervising, I applied for my builder’s license. It was like throwing gasoline on the fire that had been burning inside me. I knew exactly where I wanted to go and how I was going to get there. My goal was crystal clear: “I want to change lives and create stories with my honest approach to building.”

And so, in 2021, SoloBuilds Pty Ltd was born. This wasn’t just the start of a company—it was the realisation of a dream, the culmination of years of passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to building not just structures, but stories.
